In a daring rescue operation, Beltarodi police in Nagpur smashed the door of a flat to save a woman from a murderous assault by her husband shortly after midnight on Wednesday. The police disarmed the knife-wielding man, a hardened criminal, just minutes after he launched the attack and rushed the woman to a private hospital, covering a distance of 9.3 kilometers in just 10 minutes.
Incident Details
The incident occurred when cops on night patrol in the Gotalpanjari area under Beltarodi police station were alerted by a man that his son, Rishikesh Wankhede (22), was stabbing his wife, Ashlesha (25), in their flat at Green City-4. Police inspector Mukund Kawade directed his team, comprising PSI Narayan Ghodke and constable Ritesh Gotmare, to rush to the spot. After breaking open the door, the cops saw Rishikesh attacking his wife with a sharp weapon, with blood splattered across the floor. Gotmare grabbed the blood-soaked knife from the accused and took him into custody.
Victim's Condition and Police Action
According to police, Ashlesha's condition is now stable. "Police coordinated with the doctors to ensure Ashlesha's treatment was not delayed. We could take her to the hospital within the golden hour," said senior PI Kawade, adding that Rishikesh had been lodged in Aurangabad jail for one year under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA). Rishikesh allegedly attacked Ashlesha suspecting infidelity. He has several offenses registered against him, including murder and armed dacoity, said police.
A case of attempted murder was registered against Rishikesh under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have collected forensic evidence, blood samples, and witness statements.
