Kolkata: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday stated that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been instructed to monitor 'Bangladeshi infiltrators' at railway stations across West Bengal. Speaking after an administrative review meeting in Howrah, Adhikari revealed that he had communicated with the Howrah police commissioner and the RPF regarding this issue.
Handover to BSF for Deportation
Adhikari emphasized that if any individual at Howrah station is found to be outside the purview of the Citizenship Amendment Act and identified as an infiltrator from Bangladesh, they should be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF). A day earlier, he had announced that police would arrest infiltrators and transfer them to the BSF for deportation. 'Howrah Police or RPF will hand them over to the BSF. The BSF, in turn, will send a weekly report to the chief minister's office on how many infiltrators have been deported,' he said, adding that his office would directly monitor the process.
BJP's Stance on Infiltrators
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Samik Bhattacharya reiterated the party's policy of 'detect, delete and deport' and ruled out the establishment of detention camps. 'The BJP clarified its stance during the poll campaign, and this will continue. There will not be any detention camp,' Bhattacharya stated. He further clarified, 'We don't have anything against Indian Muslims. They consider this country as their motherland. This is not a dharamsala where anybody can just walk in.'
The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions about border security and illegal immigration in the state.
