Nagpur Police Unravel Teen Murder Case Through Strategic Interrogation
Nagpur police have successfully solved the brutal kidnapping and murder case of 14-year-old Atharva Nanore through intense cross-examination of suspects, ultimately exposing mastermind Jai Yadav's elaborate deception. The breakthrough came early Monday when investigators cracked the ransom-driven crime that had shocked the community.
Accomplice Confessions Expose Mastermind's Lies
The investigation took a decisive turn when Ayush Shahu and Kunal Shahu, named by Jai Yadav as his accomplices, walked into a carefully set police trap. Interrogators strategically informed the two suspects that Jai had already confessed and unraveled the entire sequence of events. Believing this police statement, Ayush and Kunal provided detailed accounts of the crime, spilling crucial information that investigators had been seeking.
When police compared the Sahus' versions against Jai's earlier statements, glaring inconsistencies emerged immediately. The two accomplices gave remarkably similar accounts that directly contradicted Jai's repeated lies and shifting narratives. This critical breakthrough ultimately nailed the mastermind who had misled investigators for hours with contradictory stories.
CCTV Footage and Last Seen Theory Prove Crucial
The confessions from Ayush and Kunal Shahu powerfully supported police's 'last seen theory,' which had been building around crucial CCTV evidence. Footage recorded at 9:53 pm played a pivotal role in busting the crime, clearly showing Jai Yadav walking with young Atharva in a lane near Gittikhadan during the Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra procession.
Police had focused on Jai from the investigation's beginning because the victim was last seen with him for an extended period at multiple locations, despite other potential suspects being present. Although Gittikhadan police initially rounded up Jai, he managed to dodge meaningful questioning before misleading crime branch investigators for nearly four hours with inconsistent statements.
Cellphone Tower Analysis Provides Decisive Evidence
Alongside the last seen theory, cellphone tower analysis proved instrumental in breaking the case. Jai's mobile location data placed him in Koradi—the actual murder site—despite the ongoing festival activities in Gittikhadan. He repeatedly changed his version regarding his presence in Koradi and initially named several other individuals whose tower locations didn't match the crime scene evidence.
Eventually, Jai named Ayush Shahu and Kunal Shahu, who were apprehended in the early hours of Monday. Their cellphone records corroborated their presence in Koradi, further strengthening the case against all three suspects.
Motive Revealed: Ransom for Debt Settlement and Business Expansion
According to police revelations, Jai Yadav planned the kidnapping to obtain ransom money that would help him settle mounting debts, meet urgent expenses, and expand his business operations. He intended to take the bulk of the ransom share while distributing the remaining money between accomplices Ayush and Kunal Shahu.
Investigators also examined a close relative whose cell phone tower location placed them in Mahurzari, near the Bharatwada ring road railway overbridge where Atharva's body was discovered. However, the last seen theory—powerfully supported by the decisive 9:53 pm CCTV footage—ultimately provided the conclusive evidence needed to solve this tragic case.
