Nagpur: A plan to rob citizens on deserted roads to fund a lavish party landed three goons behind bars. The accused's crime spree, which involved knife-point robberies and snatching of valuables, ended when crime branch police spoiled their mid-party revelry and nabbed them after scanning more than 200 CCTV footages.
The cops recovered stolen goods worth over Rs 1.81 lakh from the accused. According to police, the accused — Mohammad Sarfaraz Israel (20), Ayan Ali Rizwan Ali (21), and Sheikh Sohel (22) — first struck on a public road near Rajabaksha Hanuman Temple under Imamwada police station limits. They later targeted citizens on other deserted roads, but most crimes remained unreported.
Acting on a tip-off from an informer, a crime branch team of senior inspector Baburao Raut intercepted the suspects during patrolling. A search in the presence of witnesses revealed items that linked them to multiple robberies.
The goons reportedly kicked off a robbing spree to collect money for their planned party. A delivery boy was allegedly robbed at knifepoint. Later, they snatched a mobile phone from another citizen.
Emboldened by initial success, they committed further robberies, targeting whoever they came across on the roadside. With enough loot in hand, the trio assembled to enjoy their party. However, their revelry was cut short when police, after meticulously scanning CCTV footage, tracked their movements and locations.
Recovered items included a 5 gram gold locket, a scooter, a knife, and two mobile phones. The recoveries matched two registered robbery cases — at Imambada and Ajni police stations. After medical examination, the accused were handed over to Imambada police for further investigation.
