A woman sanitation worker was allegedly subjected to verbal abuse and harassment by an unidentified man while performing her duties on Tuesday morning in Nagpur. The incident prompted a work stoppage on Wednesday in the Mominpura area (Prabhag 8), where sanitation staff of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) halted operations, demanding immediate police action and enhanced security measures.
Authorities Intervene to Resolve Protest
Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Chief Sanitation Officer of NMC's solid waste management department, along with Congress corporator Wasim Khan, visited the site and assured workers of strict action against the accused. Following these assurances, the protest was withdrawn.
Khan confirmed that a complaint had already been registered at the Tehsil police station, and efforts were underway to identify and trace the suspect. He issued a warning against the harassment of sanitation staff, particularly women, and urged citizens to assist in identifying the accused.

Khan emphasized that sanitation workers play a vital role in maintaining the city's hygiene and that their safety must be ensured by both the administration and the public. He called for collective responsibility to prevent such incidents.
The case has reignited concerns over the safety of women sanitation workers, coming just days after a similar harassment incident in the Dharampeth zone near Ambazari. Workers have demanded increased police patrolling in vulnerable areas and stricter action against offenders.
