Nagpur Engineering Students Admit to Premeditated Murder Inspired by Crime Television
In a shocking case from Nagpur, three second-year engineering students have been arrested and have allegedly confessed to the premeditated murder of a 44-year-old intoxicated man. The accused, identified as Aryan Shende (22), Rishabh Kamble (20), and Anuj Waghmare (19), told police they meticulously planned the crime to mimic unsolved mysteries depicted in crime-based television serials.
Calculated Cover-Up and Evidence Destruction
According to police officials, the trio admitted to smashing the skull of the victim, Suchit Bhojapure, with rocks, stripping him naked, and dumping his body in a secluded area near a crematorium. Their strategy involved eliminating all possible means of identification, including removing the victim's wallet, phones, and clothing. "We were shocked by their cold, calculated cover-up. They ensured there was nothing to trace back. One of them even suggested disfigurement, saying 'no face means no recognition'," said a senior police officer.
Inspiration from Crime Serials and Key Evidence
Investigators revealed that the accused had closely observed crime serials to learn methods of destroying evidence, concealing bodies, and evading law enforcement. This disturbing influence was noted with concern by police, with one of the accused reportedly being an avid viewer of such content. The breakthrough in the case came when bloodstains on Aryan Shende's shoes proved crucial, despite his initial attempts to mislead authorities. Shende was apprehended from his college campus, leading to the subsequent arrests of Kamble and Waghmare.
Details of the Incident and Motive
The incident occurred on April 2 when the trio spotted Bhojapure in an inebriated state inside his car near the Wardhaman Nagar flyover. Posing as Good Samaritans, they offered to drop him home. During the drive, Anuj contacted Bhojapure's wife, who reportedly refused to take him back in his condition. Sensing an opportunity, the trio allegedly decided to rob him of his car and expensive mobile phones. They diverted the vehicle towards Khadgaon Road, where they forcibly dragged Bhojapure out and murdered him near a crematorium on that road.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
The trio has been remanded in custody till May 7 and booked on charges of murder. Police are continuing their investigation into the full extent of the crime and the influence of media on the perpetrators. This case highlights alarming trends in youth crime and the potential impacts of violent television content on impressionable minds.
