A horrific incident in a village near Nagpur has left the local community in shock and fear. In a brutal attack on Saturday, a 60-year-old widow, Parvatabai Phukat, and her 40-year-old daughter, Sangeeta Rithe, also a widow, were allegedly bludgeoned to death by their neighbour in Gangapur village, located in the Umred region.
A Heated Argument Turns Deadly
According to police sources, the tragic event unfolded after a heated argument between Parvatabai and the accused, 30-year-old Nitesh Thakre. The dispute is said to have escalated rapidly over verbal exchanges. In a fit of rage, Nitesh Thakre allegedly picked up a heavy wooden stick and attacked Parvatabai. Hearing the commotion, her daughter Sangeeta rushed from her nearby home to rescue her mother. Tragically, she too was struck multiple times on the head with the same weapon.
Parvatabai died on the spot, while Sangeeta succumbed to her injuries before any medical help could reach her. The police confirmed that there was no known history of serious conflict between the families prior to this fatal altercation.
The Investigation and Arrest
After committing the crime, Nitesh Thakre, who reportedly has no previous criminal record, fled the scene. He is alleged to have disposed of the wooden stick, the murder weapon, near a riverbank. However, the Umred police acted swiftly and managed to apprehend him.
A police team led by senior officials reached the crime scene. They conducted a thorough panchnama (inspection) and sent the bodies for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is currently focused on understanding the precise trigger for the accused's sudden and violent actions.

The brutal killings have sent waves of fear through Gangapur village. Local residents described the victims as ordinary women who were living a quiet life after having lost their husbands. The sheer brutality and suddenness of the attack have left the neighbourhood deeply unsettled.
