Nashik Astrologer's 12th Case: Rs 1 Crore Fraud Alleged

Nashik Astrologer Faces 12th Case in Major Fraud Investigation

In a significant development, the Sarkarwada police in Nashik have registered the eleventh case within the city against astrologer Ashokkumar Kharat, bringing the total number of cases against him to twelve. This latest First Information Report (FIR) includes one previously filed at the Shirdi police station in Ahilyanagar, highlighting a pattern of alleged criminal activities.

Businessman Alleges Rs 1 Crore Cheating Scam

A 36-year-old businessman has come forward, accusing Kharat of defrauding him of approximately Rs 1 crore through a series of deceptive schemes. The exploitation reportedly began in 2019 when the victim was in dire need of financial assistance. Kharat, under the guise of constructing an old-age home, allegedly pressured the businessman into selling a plot of land valued at Rs 60 lakh for a mere Rs 22.25 lakh. Shockingly, this property was later registered in the name of Kharat's daughter, Srushti, raising serious questions about the intent behind the transaction.

Spiritual Exploitation and Coercive Tactics

As the businessman continued to face personal and professional challenges, he sought Kharat's guidance, only to be further exploited. Kharat, projecting himself as an incarnation of God, allegedly sold the victim a tamarind seed-like object for Rs 15,000, claiming it held spiritual powers to resolve his issues. Additionally, the complainant was forced to provide unpaid labor for various construction projects managed by Kharat, incurring an extra cost of Rs 2 lakh.

Major Land Deal Fraud Uncovered

The most substantial financial blow came from a promised 600-square-yard plot on Pathardi-Gaulane Road. Between 2023 and 2025, the businessman paid Kharat around Rs 85 lakh in installments for this land. However, he never received the property. Whenever he questioned the delays, Kharat allegedly threatened him with divine wrath to silence any inquiries, according to police officials.

Legal Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Kharat has been booked under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil, and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, as well as Section 316(2) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are actively investigating the multiple cases as more victims step forward, indicating a broader pattern of fraud and exploitation. Authorities urge anyone with similar experiences to come forward to aid in the comprehensive probe.
