Nashik Police Extend Luxury Bus Ban to Alleviate Traffic Congestion
In a decisive move to combat escalating traffic issues, the Nashik city police have officially extended the ban on private luxury buses operating within city limits for an additional three months. This prohibition will remain effective until May 31, 2024, as confirmed by authorities. The ban is scheduled to be enforced daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, covering peak traffic periods. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Kirithika CM issued a formal notification outlining the restrictions. According to the directive, all private bus pick-up and drop-off points at key city hubs are strictly prohibited. These restricted locations include prominent areas such as Dwarka, Mumbai Naka, CBS (Central Bus Stand), and Thakkar Bazaar.
Authorities have mandated that bus operators must exclusively utilize the Tapovan Citylink Bus Terminal for all passenger boarding and alighting activities. This centralized measure aims to streamline operations and minimize disruptions across the city's road network. Police officials have issued a stern warning, indicating that any operators found violating these regulations by using unauthorized points will face stringent legal action under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The decision to prolong the ban is directly tied to the city's current infrastructure overhaul. Nashik is undergoing significant construction activities in preparation for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Traffic police reports highlight that the city is witnessing the construction of four new flyovers, alongside extensive widening, repair, and construction work on approximately 30 major roads.
"Permitting private buses to traverse critical junctions like Dwarka Circle, Mumbai Naka, Thakkar Bazaar, Tractor House, Tigrinya Road, and Kannamvar Bridge would exacerbate existing congestion levels," stated a police representative. "Therefore, to ensure smooth and safe traffic flow and to prevent inconvenience to residents, restrictions on private luxury buses and other vehicles will remain enforced."
