Nashik IT Firm Scandal: Nine FIRs Registered for Alleged Conversion and Harassment
Police in Nashik have taken decisive action by registering nine First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with a disturbing case involving allegations of attempted religious conversion, sexual harassment, and workplace misconduct at a local IT company. Investigators have revealed that the accused individuals appeared to operate in a coordinated manner, specifically targeting employees within the organization.
Organized Gang-Like Activity Uncovered
A senior police officer disclosed that the investigation has uncovered evidence suggesting seven male employees functioned "like an organized gang" to systematically target female staff members. This coordinated effort raises serious concerns about the workplace environment and the abuse of authority.
Arrests and Judicial Custody
To date, police have arrested eight employees of the firm, comprising seven men and one woman. The arrested female manager, who served as the operations and HR head, has been remanded to judicial custody until April 28 by a Nashik court. She faces allegations of discouraging a victim from filing a formal complaint, with police stating she told the complainant, "These things happen," and sided with the accused.
Absconding Accused and Wider Investigations
Another woman employee remains absconding in connection with the case. Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik addressed speculation about possible links to extremist groups or foreign funding, confirming that investigations are ongoing. Agencies including the State Intelligence Department (SID), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have been approached for assistance.
"As and when we get some evidence, we will be able to come to a conclusion about the same," Karnik stated, emphasizing the thoroughness of the probe.
Multiple Complaints and SIT Formation
The nine FIRs include a complaint from a male employee alleging attempted religious conversion and harassment at the workplace. Earlier this week, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed after eight female employees came forward with complaints of mental and sexual harassment by senior colleagues. They alleged that their grievances were consistently ignored by the HR department.
Police Response and Victim Support
Commissioner Karnik detailed that the accused—nine individuals total, including seven men and two women—held positions of authority such as team leaders and allegedly misused their roles to harass co-workers. The male accused featured across multiple cases, suggesting a pattern of coordinated misconduct.
He explained that initially, the first complainant was hesitant to come forward. However, after receiving support and counseling from police, more victims gained the confidence to report incidents, leading to the registration of multiple FIRs. To facilitate this, a woman Deputy Commissioner of Police and female officers were deployed at the office to interact with staff and conduct inquiries, which resulted in additional complaints emerging.
Corporate Response and Internal Investigation
Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran described the allegations of sexual harassment as "gravely concerning and anguishing." He confirmed that a detailed internal investigation is underway under the supervision of TCS chief operating officer Arathi Subramanian, indicating the seriousness with which the corporate entity is treating the matter.
The case continues to develop as police work to uncover the full extent of the alleged misconduct and any potential wider connections.
