Nashik Court Imposes Life Sentence in Minor Rape Case Under Pocso Act
A special Pocso court in Ahilyanagar, Nashik, delivered a significant verdict on Thursday, sentencing a 40-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl in September 2022. Special Judge R R Hastekar found the accused guilty under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), marking a stern stance against child sexual abuse.

The convict, who resided in the same neighbourhood as the survivor, visited her home on September 7, 2022. The victim's mother had requested him to drop her daughter to college, trusting him due to their acquaintance. However, the man exploited this trust by telling the minor that he had feelings for her. He then took her to a lodge on Ahilyanagar Sambhaji Road and raped her. Following the assault, he threatened to kill her and her family if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
Later that day, around 4:30 PM, the girl's mother went to the college to pick her up and noticed her arriving with the accused on a bike. Sensing something amiss, she questioned them and immediately took her daughter to the police station, where she filed a kidnapping complaint. During questioning, the girl revealed the rape, leading police to add charges under the IPC and Pocso Act, as confirmed by Sandeep Mitke, then deputy SP in Newasa.

The trial relied heavily on testimonies from the victim, her mother, medical professionals, forensic experts, and investigation officers including sub-inspector Manoj Mondhe, API Dnyaneshwar Thorat, and deputy SP Mitke.
