A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the Rabale police in Navi Mumbai for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 31-year-old woman from Ghansoli. The accused has been identified as Ajay Teli, a resident of the Airoli node.
Incident Details
The victim died at her Ghansoli residence on April 7 at around 7 pm. Initially, the police registered an accidental death report based on preliminary observations. However, during the panchnama of the crime scene, the police team seized a diary containing a suicide note. In the note, the victim named Teli and alleged that he had subjected her to mental and physical harassment. She also claimed that he reneged on his promise to marry her and forced her to undergo an abortion.
Legal Action
Based on the suicide note, the deceased woman's father filed an FIR against Teli on April 9. The accused was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide, causing a miscarriage without the woman's consent, intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, and voluntarily causing hurt. He was arrested from his Airoli residence on the same day.
Background of the Case
According to the FIR, in January, Teli established a love relationship with the woman, who was already married at that time. He compelled her to get a divorce by assuring her that he would marry her. However, after she obtained the divorce, Teli showed reluctance to marry her. The woman insisted on marriage, but Teli allegedly harassed her physically and mentally by deliberately suspecting her fidelity. The harassment escalated, leading to her tragic suicide.
The police are further investigating the case. The accused remains in custody as legal proceedings continue.
