Navsari Police SOG Uncovers Illegal Ganja Cultivation Racket in Border Village
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Navsari police has successfully dismantled an illegal ganja cultivation operation in Vansda taluka, leading to the arrest of one individual. This significant bust highlights ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in the region.
Drone-Assisted Operation Leads to Discovery
Acting on credible intelligence, SOG inspector R S Patel and his team conducted a targeted search operation in Ghodmal village, situated along the sensitive Gujarat-Maharashtra border. To enhance surveillance capabilities, police deployed a drone during the operation, which proved instrumental in detecting the illicit crop.
The drone reconnaissance revealed ganja plants cultivated on a farm belonging to 26-year-old Manish Bhagariya, who was promptly apprehended at the scene. Authorities confiscated a total of 94 ganja plants with a combined weight of 3.525 kilograms. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 1.76 lakh.
Concealment Tactics and Supplier Hunt
During subsequent interrogation, Bhagariya disclosed that he had planted the seeds approximately three months prior. In an attempt to evade detection, he had employed clever concealment methods by situating the crop beneath a mango tree and covering it with clay to camouflage its presence from aerial and ground observation.
The investigation further revealed that Bhagariya allegedly obtained the seeds from Jay Pandit, a resident of Vansda town. Pandit is currently absconding, and police have launched an intensive search operation to locate and apprehend him. The case remains active as authorities pursue this crucial lead.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Manish Bhagariya has been formally charged under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This legislation carries severe penalties for offenses related to drug cultivation, possession, and trafficking.
The Navsari police have emphasized that their investigation is continuing with full vigor. Officers are examining all aspects of the racket, including potential distribution networks and any additional accomplices. This bust represents a significant disruption to local narcotics operations and sends a strong message about law enforcement's commitment to eradicating such illegal activities.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug cultivation or trafficking. The successful use of drone technology in this operation demonstrates how modern policing methods are being employed to combat sophisticated criminal enterprises in border regions.
