Kolkata: NCPI MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding the expulsion of TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee for what she termed as "verbal abuse, misogynistic comments, and misconduct." The letter, sent on Monday, accuses Banerjee of inappropriate behavior during parliamentary proceedings.
Allegations of Misconduct
In her correspondence, Dastidar detailed instances of Banerjee's alleged offensive language and disrespectful conduct towards fellow members. She emphasized that such behavior undermines the dignity of the House and sets a poor precedent.
Banerjee's Response
Kalyan Banerjee, a loyalist of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, dismissed the allegations as "false, fabricated, and made as an afterthought." He asserted that the claims are baseless and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
The controversy has sparked debate over parliamentary decorum and the need for stricter disciplinary measures. The Speaker's office has yet to comment on the matter.
