NDRF Team Recovers Body of Teenager from Garga Dam in Bokaro

The body of a 17-year-old boy who tragically drowned while bathing in Garga Dam under the jurisdiction of the Balidih police station was successfully recovered on Thursday. The recovery operation was conducted with the crucial assistance of a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as confirmed by local officials.

Victim Identified as Local Resident

The deceased has been identified as Golu Kumar, a resident of Jhopdi Colony in the Bokaro district. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers associated with bathing in unsupervised water bodies.

Sequence of the Tragic Incident

According to detailed information provided by police sources, the teenager had visited the dam on Wednesday afternoon. He was accompanied by a group of five to six friends for a casual outing. During their visit, the group collectively decided to take a bath in the dam's waters to cool off.

Tragically, while bathing, Golu inadvertently moved into a deeper section of the water body. He began to struggle immediately, indicating he was in distress. His friends, witnessing the emergency, attempted a rescue but were unfortunately unable to reach him in time. The swift currents and depth of the water hampered their efforts, and Golu went missing beneath the surface.

Initial Search Efforts and NDRF Intervention

Upon receiving information about the drowning incident, personnel from the Balidih police station promptly reached the spot. They initiated an immediate search operation, enlisting the help of local residents in a concerted effort to locate the missing boy. However, despite these initial attempts, the search proved unsuccessful on Wednesday.

District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Shakti Kumar provided further details on the escalation of the operation. "The NDRF team was subsequently called in to assist with the search operation due to the challenging conditions," Kumar stated. "After several hours of intensive search efforts on Thursday, the specialized team successfully recovered the body from the dam."

The involvement of the NDRF, a specialized force trained for such disaster response scenarios, was pivotal in concluding the search. The recovery brings a somber closure to the frantic search, though it underscores a preventable tragedy. Authorities continue to urge caution around water bodies, especially during the summer months when such incidents are more frequent.
