In a major crackdown on exam malpractice, the Bihar Police have busted a NEET solver gang operating in Nalanda district. Two individuals, including a final-year MBBS student, were arrested on charges of impersonating candidates in the NEET-UG examination. The police recovered a substantial amount of cash, forged admit cards, and other incriminating materials from their possession.
Details of the Arrest
The arrests were made following a tip-off about a group that was facilitating cheating in the medical entrance exam. The MBBS student, identified as Dr. Ravi Kumar (name changed), was allegedly the mastermind behind the operation. He is a student at a private medical college in Bihar. The second accused, a middleman named Suresh Singh, was responsible for procuring clients and arranging logistics.
During the raid, the police seized Rs 5 lakh in cash, along with multiple forged admit cards bearing different names and photographs. Laptops, mobile phones, and documents related to the exam were also confiscated. Preliminary investigations reveal that the gang charged between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh per candidate for providing a solver during the exam.
Modus Operandi
The gang operated by replacing genuine candidates with impostors who were skilled in solving the NEET paper. The impostors would appear in place of the actual candidates, using forged admit cards. After the exam, the candidates would pay the gang a hefty sum. The MBBS student, being well-versed in the subject matter, was the primary solver. The gang had been active for at least two years and had helped several candidates clear the exam.
Police officials stated that the gang had a well-organized network across multiple states. They used encrypted messaging apps to communicate with clients and avoided leaving a paper trail. The arrests have led to the exposure of a larger nexus involving coaching centers and touts.
Legal Action and Investigation
The accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. They are also being investigated under the provisions of the Bihar Conduct of Examinations Act. The police are now working to identify other candidates who may have used the gang's services and are tracing the money trail.
