Gadchiroli Police Opens Strategic Post in Former Maoist Stronghold on Gudi Padwa
New Police Post in Gadchiroli to Block Maoist Route, Boost Development

Strategic Police Post Inaugurated in Gadchiroli's Former Maoist Territory

In a significant security and development move, Gadchiroli police officially opened a fortified police post on Thursday at Bangadi village in the remote Bhamragad area. This inauguration, timed with the auspicious festival of Gudi Padwa, marks the 11th such security launchpad established in the district since 2023.

Blocking a Critical Maoist Transit Route

The new post is strategically located barely 2 kilometers from the Chhattisgarh border, positioned on a route that was once a crucial transit point within the notorious Red Corridor. For years, Maoist insurgents exploited this path to move weapons, cadres, and supplies across the Indravati river, connecting their former headquarters in Abujmarh to Indravati National Park in neighboring Chhattisgarh.

The fortified facility is expected to effectively block this Maoist corridor, enhancing security in a region historically plagued by insurgent activity. This area witnessed one of the deadliest incidents in Maharashtra's anti-Maoist operations in 2009, when an ambush near Laheri claimed the lives of 17 security personnel.

Accelerating Infrastructure and Economic Development

Beyond security, the Bangadi post plays a pivotal role in infrastructure development. It will help secure the completion of a critical 27-kilometer missing stretch on National Highway 130D, which links Alapalli in Gadchiroli with Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh. Alongside the existing Beenagonda post, this new security installation will protect ongoing road construction efforts.

Once completed, this highway is anticipated to significantly boost economic activity in the backward tribal belt by improving transportation, creating jobs, and connecting previously isolated villages. Senior police officials emphasized that the post will enable major projects including highways, bridges, mobile towers, and the Gundenur nullah dam, with plans to introduce MSRTC bus services to enhance regional connectivity.

Rapid Construction and Modern Amenities

The police post was constructed in an impressive 24-hour operation involving over 1,050 personnel. This force included 1,000 C-60 commandos, 18 bomb disposal squads, new recruits, 500 special police officers, and private workers. Heavy machinery such as four JCBs, eight trailers, two poclains, and 20 trucks were deployed to overcome the challenging terrain.

The facility is equipped with modern amenities including WiFi connectivity, 15 porta cabins, a generator shed, an RO water system, a mobile tower, toilets, MAC walls, bullet-proof morchas, and 8 sandbag bunkers. It will be manned by 3 officers and 55 personnel from Gadchiroli Police, SRPF, platoons from Jalna, CRPF teams, and 200 commandos from the Special Operations Group.

Official Inauguration and Future Vision

Senior officials including Special IG Sandeep Patil, DIG Ankit Goyal, DIG CRPF Ajay Kumar Sharma, and SP Neelotpal attended the inauguration ceremony and interacted with local residents. SP Neelotpal stated, "The new facility would strengthen security in the sensitive region and enable major infrastructure projects. Better roads will improve transportation, create jobs and drive development in this backward tribal belt. Villages will no longer remain isolated. This police post marks the transformation of a Maoist stronghold into a safe and developing zone."

This development follows the recent establishment of similar facilities at Phulnara, Tumarkothi, and Binagunda, reflecting a sustained effort to enhance security and promote development in Gadchiroli's once Maoist-dominated areas.
