Newborn Girl Abandoned in Lucknow Box, Police Probe

A seven-day-old girl was discovered abandoned inside a cardboard box near a Convention Centre in the Ghazipur (Indira Nagar) police station area on Friday. According to police, a passerby heard the infant's cries and alerted emergency services. Upon receiving the information, teams from the PRV, Ghazipur police station, and Sarvodaya Nagar police outpost rushed to the scene.

When officers opened the box, they found the newborn carefully wrapped and placed amid cotton padding. The infant was dressed in a pink top and wearing a diaper. Police immediately took the child into protective custody and arranged for a medical examination. Officials stated that information about the abandoned infant was received by the PRV at around 11:40 pm. A preliminary health check indicated that the baby was in stable condition and did not appear to have suffered any immediate medical complications.

Child Handed Over to Authorities

"The child has been handed over to the child protection authorities and is currently under the care of a child care centre," officials said. ADCP, East Zone, Amol Murkut, mentioned that police have launched an investigation to trace the person responsible for abandoning the newborn.

Investigation Underway

"We are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the Convention Centre and adjoining roads to identify anyone seen carrying or leaving the box at the location," he said. Police officials said efforts are underway to establish the identity of the infant's parents and determine the circumstances under which the child was abandoned.
