Newly-Wed Woman Leaps into Chambal River in Kanpur, Search Operation Intensifies
In a distressing incident, a recently married woman jumped into the Chambal river from the Chambal bridge in the Chakarnagar police station area of Kanpur on Saturday evening. The event occurred at approximately 8 PM, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
Police Launch Extensive Search with Divers and Motor Boat
Upon receiving the alert, police swiftly initiated a search operation, mobilizing local divers and deploying a motor boat to scour the river. Despite persistent efforts throughout the night, no trace of the woman was found, leaving the search ongoing as of late night.
The woman has been identified as Bhavna Diwakar, aged 23, daughter of Ashok Kumar and a resident of Mohalla Katra Shamsher Khan in Etawah. She was married on March 12 to Satyaveer, who hails from village Hanumantpura under the Sahson police station area.
Family Members Cite Possible Supernatural Influence
According to Bhavna's aunt, Urmila Devi, the young woman was believed to be under the influence of evil spirits. Urmila Devi, along with Bhavna's brother, Ajay Kumar, was transporting Bhavna on a motorcycle to her maternal home in Etawah when the tragic incident unfolded.
Police reports indicate that as the motorcycle reached the Chambal bridge, Bhavna suddenly dismounted and leaped into the river before her family members could react. The swift and unexpected nature of the act left them in shock.
Authorities and In-Laws Rush to the Scene
Upon receiving information, police personnel and Bhavna's in-laws promptly arrived at the location. A motor boat was summoned, and a comprehensive search was launched in the river waters. The operation involved coordinated efforts between law enforcement and local divers to locate the missing woman.
SHO Balram Mishra stated that the exact reason for Bhavna's jump remains unclear at this stage. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking event. The community and authorities are deeply concerned as the search continues for any signs of Bhavna Diwakar.
