In a swift action, the Nigdi police in Pune arrested a 27-year-old autorickshaw driver on Saturday night for allegedly snatching a gold pendant from a minor girl. The incident occurred in the bustling area of Akurdi, where the victim suffered minor injuries to her neck during the robbery.

Details of the Akurdi Robbery

The complainant, the 31-year-old mother of the victim, stated that she had gone to Akurdi with her daughter and four friends to participate in a local fair. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Kailas Khade, a resident of Chikhali, had been following the group.

"The accused, who was following them, snatched the girl's pendant and fled from there," an officer from the Nigdi police station reported. The snatched gold pendant was valued at approximately Rs 10,000.

Swift Police Response Leads to Arrest

Acting on information relayed through the police control room, a team from the Nigdi police station, which was already deployed at the fair for bandobast (security) duty, immediately launched a search. Their prompt efforts led to the tracing and apprehension of the accused.

A case of robbery has been registered against Kailas Khade. However, the police confirmed that the stolen pendant has not yet been recovered. "We are yet to recover the robbed pendant from him," the investigating officer added.

The incident has highlighted concerns about street crime during crowded public events. The police have assured the public of continued vigilance and have urged citizens to remain cautious with their valuables in such settings.
