Nigerian National Murdered in Pune Over Love Affair Dispute
Police in Pune have confirmed the murder of a Nigerian national in the Pisoli area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday. Authorities identified the victim as Emeka Christian, aged 40.
Details of the Crime
Emeka Christian was attacked at an apartment near the Dharmavat petrol pump in Pisoli. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde stated that the murder resulted from a dispute related to a love affair. Senior police inspector Mansing Patil provided further insights.
"Our initial investigation shows that one of the accused was in love with a Nigerian woman," Patil explained. "Emeka allegedly asked the woman to stay away from this individual. This led to a heated argument and the subsequent attack around 3 am on Monday."
Police Action and Arrests
The Kalepadal police station registered a First Information Report for murder. They booked three Nigerian nationals under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 103 for murder and 3(5). Police suspect the accused assaulted Emeka with a hard object, causing fatal injuries.
Two suspects have been apprehended. They are Jhonpol Obinna Moneke, 40, and Nyanemeko Madubuchi Oniya, 43. Officers are actively searching for the third accused. Both arrested individuals are involved in the cloth selling business, similar to the deceased. Oniya also worked as a gym trainer.
Victim's Background and Response
Emeka Christian lived in the Pisoli area and operated a clothing business. He held a valid visa and passport for India, with permission to stay until 2027. After the attack, Gift Utah, Vice President of the Nigerian Students Union in Pune, rushed to the scene.
Utah admitted Emeka to Ruby Hall Clinic in Wanavdi. Unfortunately, Emeka died during treatment. The police have launched a thorough probe into the matter. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover all details surrounding this tragic event.
