Nine Individuals Booked After Violent Midnight Altercation at Bandra-Worli Sea Link Toll Plaza
The Bandra police have officially registered a case against nine individuals following a physical confrontation that erupted at the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) toll plaza around midnight on Friday. The accused include six employees of the toll plaza, a taxi driver, and two of his associates, all charged under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for affray.
Incident Triggered by Continuous Honking
According to police reports, the altercation began when a taxi driver, waiting in the queue at the toll plaza, persistently honked his horn. This action prompted a toll plaza staff member to confront the driver, leading to an exchange of abusive language. The situation quickly escalated from a verbal argument into a full-blown physical fight.
Eyewitness accounts corroborate that the dispute intensified after the taxi driver summoned two of his associates to the location. A violent scuffle ensued between the toll staff and the taxi driver's group, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The injured parties were promptly transported to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra West for necessary medical treatment.
Traffic Disruption and Viral Video
The brawl caused significant commotion at the toll plaza, disrupting traffic flow for approximately ten minutes before authorities managed to restore order. A video capturing the incident has since gone viral on social media platforms, drawing widespread public attention to the event.
Additional reports from eyewitnesses suggest that a separate incident occurred involving a car driver who was allegedly assaulted by toll naka employees at the Bandra exit of the sea link, though police have primarily focused on the main altercation at the toll plaza.
Legal Action and Investigation
Police officials have emphasized that the case was registered under the BNS section for affray, highlighting the seriousness with which they are treating the incident. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full sequence of events and any additional factors that may have contributed to the violence.
This incident underscores ongoing tensions at busy toll plazas in Mumbai and raises concerns about public safety and traffic management during peak hours. Authorities are urging citizens to maintain decorum and resolve disputes through lawful means to prevent such occurrences in the future.
