In a tragic case of fatal obsession, a 23-year-old man was arrested from Bihar for the cold-blooded murder of his former girlfriend in Noida last week, after she repeatedly refused to reconcile and marry him. The accused, Krishna Kumar, was apprehended by a joint team of Noida and Bihar police from Bhojpur district and brought back to Uttar Pradesh on transit remand on Friday.
The Fatal Confrontation and Eyewitness Account
The incident occurred on the evening of November 28 inside the one-room rented accommodation of the 25-year-old victim, Soni, in Yakubpur village. According to police, Krishna arrived just as Soni returned from work. A heated argument ensued, during which Soni once again firmly rejected his marriage proposal. Enraged, Krishna pulled out a .32 bore country-made pistol and shot Soni in the chest at point-blank range.
The brutal act was witnessed by Soni's two younger sisters, 17-year-old Kusum and 14-year-old Pushpa, who were present in the room. Soni collapsed at the doorstep and succumbed to her injuries. The younger sister's eyewitness testimony later became crucial for the police investigation. The sisters revealed that Soni had ended the relationship approximately four months prior due to Krishna's aggressive and possessive behavior. In an attempt to sever all ties, she had even shifted to a different building within the same locality and stopped responding to his calls.
A Cross-State Manhunt and Arrest
Following the murder, Krishna embarked on a frantic escape to evade capture. He initially fled on foot, then used a series of buses and shared vehicles to leave the city. His escape route took him to Gujarat, where he stayed briefly, before eventually returning to his home state of Bihar. To throw investigators off his trail, he discarded his old phone and SIM cards, purchasing a new mobile handset in Gujarat for Rs 5,000.
The Phase-II police station in Noida formed three special teams that conducted raids across Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Bihar. The breakthrough came when Krishna used the new phone to contact his family members. This digital footprint allowed the police to trace his location to Bhojpur in Bihar. With coordinated assistance from the Bihar Police, he was successfully tracked down and arrested.
Central Noida DCP Shakti Mohan Avasthy detailed the accused's elaborate evasion tactics. During the investigation, police also recovered the murder weapon. Krishna had thrown the pistol into some bushes near Sector 85 in Noida while fleeing. The police team subsequently recovered the firearm along with two live and two spent cartridges.
A History of Crime and Premeditated Attack
Further investigation uncovered a troubling history between the accused and the victim. Additional DCP Santosh Kumar revealed that Krishna was previously arrested in August in connection with a major theft case. Nearly 1 kilogram of gold and a significant amount of cash were stolen from a house where both Krishna and Soni worked as domestic help. The theft led to their dismissal from the job. Krishna was jailed but released a few months ago.
After his release, he began persistently trying to reconnect with Soni, who wanted nothing to do with him. Police believe the murder was not a crime of passion in the heat of the moment but a premeditated act. "Krishna went to meet Soni carrying the pistol. He had planned the attack beforehand," stated SHO Phase-II, Vindhyachal Tiwari. This indicates he arrived at her home armed and with intent.
Soni, who was originally from Adampur in Amroha district, lived in Yakubpur with her siblings while working in Noida. The police have stated that the investigative team that cracked the case across three states within days of the crime will be formally felicitated for their swift work. Krishna was produced before a local court in Noida, which remanded him to judicial custody.
