Noida Labor Protest Violence Mastermind Arrested in Tamil Nadu
The Special Task Force (STF) and Noida police have achieved a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the April 13 labor protest violence, arresting Aditya Anand, described as the "mastermind" behind the unrest, from Tiruchirapalli railway station in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Anand was apprehended following extensive electronic surveillance and intelligence inputs, with authorities having announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to his capture.
Central Role in Orchestrating Violence
Police officials claim Anand played a pivotal role in orchestrating the violence that erupted during workers' protests, which initially began as demonstrations over labor-related grievances. The April 13 incident saw large-scale vandalism across Noida's industrial hubs after protests turned violent. Investigators allege that Anand and his associates deliberately planned to incite unrest and escalate the peaceful protest into a violent confrontation.
Background and Radicalization
Originally hailing from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, Anand holds a BTech degree from NIT Jamshedpur and was placed as a software engineer at a private Noida company through campus recruitment. He previously lived in Gurgaon for work before shifting back to Noida in June 2025, residing in rented accommodation in Sector 37 at the time of the protest.
According to police sources, Anand first connected with Mazdoor Bigul, a labor-focused organization led by Anubhav Sinha, through Facebook in 2022. He subsequently began reporting on factory workers' conditions in Noida. During the Bhagat Singh Jan Adhikar Yatra in 2023—an initiative organized by Mazdoor Bigul—Anand met co-accused Rupesh Roy, who was arrested on April 11 along with Manisha Chauhan as alleged conspirators.
Over time, Anand deepened his association with the organization's senior leadership and participated in agitations across the country. Police also link Anand with Disha Student Organisation, RWPI, and Naujavan Bharat Sabha.
Nationwide Manhunt and Legal Proceedings
Multiple police teams from Noida and the STF were deployed across several states to track Anand after investigators initially suspected he might have fled to Delhi. Officials believe his questioning will shed light on others involved in the violence.
Anand will be brought to Noida on transit remand. A non-bailable warrant was earlier issued against him by a local court, and a case was registered at Noida Phase 2 police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 191(1) and (2) for rioting, 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, 121(1) and (2) for voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servants from duty, 351(3) for criminal intimidation, 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and 61(2) for criminal conspiracy, along with Section 7 of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.
Broader Investigation and International Links
In a separate development, the Anti-Terrorism Squad has launched an investigation into the violence after police claimed that two handles on X (formerly Twitter) that posted fake videos about people dying during the protests were operated from Pakistan. This adds an international dimension to the ongoing probe into the Noida labor unrest.
The arrest marks a crucial step in unraveling the conspiracy behind the April 13 violence that disrupted industrial activities in Noida and raised serious security concerns. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the network involved in planning and executing the protest escalation.
