In a dramatic late-night operation, Uttar Pradesh Police shot dead a notorious criminal with more than 25 cases against him during an exchange of fire in Hapur district. The incident occurred in Kapoorpur area following a tip-off about suspected cow smuggling activities.
The Fatal Encounter
According to police officials, the operation began around 12:30 am on Monday when authorities received specific intelligence about cow smugglers arranging transportation of animals. Acting swiftly on this information, Station House Officer Vinod Pandey reached the location and began surveillance.
"The SHO spotted a Swift Dzire car moving suspiciously and decided to follow it. Without any provocation, the occupant of the vehicle opened fire at the police officer," said Kunwar Gyananjay Singh, Superintendent of Police, Hapur.
Intense Exchange of Fire
The situation escalated rapidly into a heavy gunfight. "As soon as the car's occupants realized they were trapped, Haseen opened fire at the police team, aiming directly at SHO Pandey. The officer narrowly escaped as the bullet whizzed past his head," SP Singh elaborated.
Police officials stated that the officer returned fire in self-defense, leading to Haseen sustaining gunshot injuries. The criminal collapsed near the vehicle and was immediately rushed for medical attention.
Aftermath and Investigation
Haseen, also known as Shatir, was first taken to the Community Health Centre in Dhaulana. Given the seriousness of his condition, he was subsequently referred to Rama Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
From the encounter site, police recovered significant evidence including:
- A country-made pistol
- Live cartridges
- A Swift Dzire car
The 30-year-old criminal, who hailed from Manauta village in Sambhal district's Asmoli area, had a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head. His criminal record spanned more than 25 cases involving serious charges such as:
- Cow slaughter
- Attempt to murder
- Offences under the Gangster Act
This incident marks another significant achievement for UP Police in their ongoing campaign against hardened criminals in the state. The police have launched a detailed investigation into the encounter while confirming that all standard operating procedures were followed during the operation.
