Odisha Man Arrested for Growing Cannabis Near Thadagam

The Coimbatore district police on Friday arrested a migrant worker on charges of illegally cultivating cannabis (ganja) plants near Thadagam in Coimbatore district. The accused has been identified as R Madhabananda Jena, a 46-year-old daily wage earner originally from Odisha. He was residing in a rented house in Thadagam.

Operation Based on Tip-Off

Acting on a specific tip-off regarding illegal cannabis cultivation, a special team from the Thadagam police station conducted a search operation near Pannimadai on Friday. During the raid, police discovered two cannabis plants growing behind the house where Jena was staying. Further inquiries revealed that Jena was actively cultivating the plants.

Arrest and Legal Action

The police immediately arrested Jena and confiscated the cannabis plants. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Following his arrest, he was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
