Odisha Police Launch Statewide Crackdown on LPG Black Marketing
In a significant operation aimed at curbing illegal activities, Odisha police launched a comprehensive statewide crackdown on the black marketing of LPG cylinders on Thursday evening. The coordinated effort resulted in the seizure of hundreds of hoarded cylinders and multiple arrests across various districts.
Major Seizures and Arrests in Sambalpur and Puri
In Sambalpur's Burla area, police intercepted a vehicle that was illegally transporting 161 LPG cylinders. The driver of the vehicle was promptly arrested for involvement in the unauthorized trade. This interception highlights the scale of illegal operations that authorities are targeting.
Simultaneously, in Puri district, police conducted special inspections and raids based on credible information regarding illegal hoarding and black marketing. During these operations, 58 cylinders were seized, and six individuals were detained for their involvement in unauthorized storage and distribution activities.
Police Statements and Public Safety Concerns
Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh emphasized the seriousness of the offenses. "Acting on credible information regarding illegal hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders in Puri district, we conducted special inspections and raids across different police station areas," Singh stated. "Strict action was taken against individuals involved in unauthorized storage and black marketing. A significant number of cylinders were seized during the drive."
Police officials have underscored that unauthorized hoarding or trading of LPG cylinders constitutes a serious offense that directly endangers public safety. The illegal activities not only disrupt the legitimate supply chain but also create potential hazards in communities where cylinders may be stored improperly.
Statewide Directive and Central Alert
The crackdown follows specific directives issued by the state police headquarters after receiving an alert from the central government. These instructions mandated all district Superintendents of Police to intensify action against LPG black marketing, prevent theft of cylinders, and maintain law and order during the current situation.
The coordinated response demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies to address this critical issue that affects household energy security across the state. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to LPG cylinder hoarding or black marketing to their nearest police station or by dialing the emergency number 112.
