Chandigarh: The opposition Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government over the deteriorating law and order situation following the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Joga Singh in Amritsar district.
Congress Leaders Express Outrage
Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Partap Singh Bajwa stated that the killing of the policeman while he was on his way to duty near Majitha reflected the growing "fearlessness among criminals" in Punjab under the Bhagwant Mann government. He emphasized that when criminals can target a police officer without fear, it indicates how deeply the atmosphere of lawlessness has spread across the state.
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring alleged that "complete lawlessness and anarchy" prevail across the state. He remarked, "When policemen themselves are not safe, one can imagine the condition of common citizens." Warring also referred to the violence and arson inside Kapurthala Central Jail on Saturday night, stating that the incident showed the government's "writ does not run even inside jail premises."
SAD President Condemns Killing
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal condemned the killing and alleged that law and order had "completely collapsed" in Punjab. He claimed that targeted killings, gangster activity, and insecurity were forcing traders, doctors, and industrialists to leave the state. He added that not even policemen are safe today, and the dominance of gangsters and zero security are driving people away.
The opposition parties have demanded immediate action from the state government to restore confidence among citizens and ensure the safety of law enforcement personnel.
