Panchkula: 1 Dead, 3 Hurt as SUV Falls into Gorge Near Morni

A devastating road accident in the early hours of Wednesday resulted in the death of a young man and left three others with serious injuries in Panchkula. The incident occurred near Manana village in the Morni area, a region known for its challenging terrain.

Tragic Plunge into Deep Gorge

According to police reports, the victims were traveling in a Mahindra Thar SUV when the vehicle fell into a 100-foot-deep gorge. The accident is believed to have taken place sometime between 1 am and 2 am. The SUV was severely damaged upon impact, highlighting the severity of the fall.

Victims Identified as Local Residents

The deceased has been identified as Abhishek, a 23-year-old resident of Sector 15 in Panchkula. He was a student at the time of the tragic incident. The other occupants of the vehicle included Vivek, a gym trainer from Sector 14 who was driving the Thar, along with his friends Ayush, also a student, and Lalit, another gym trainer from the same sector.

Late Night Journey Turns Fatal

Chandimandir police station SHO Rampal Singh provided details about the sequence of events. The group had left for Morni at approximately 10 pm on Tuesday. During their return journey between 1 am and 3 am, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle near Manana village. This area is characterized by dense forest cover and sharp road cuts, making navigation particularly hazardous, especially during nighttime hours.

Miraculous Survival and Rescue Operation

Following the crash, all four occupants lost consciousness due to the impact. After some time, Lalit regained consciousness and managed to climb up to the road from the gorge. In a stroke of fortune, he was able to signal the first Haryana Roadways bus heading to Morni in the morning, which stopped to provide assistance.

Police were immediately informed about the accident. A coordinated rescue effort was launched involving staff from the Morni police post and local residents. The rescue team worked diligently to bring the three surviving victims to safety and retrieve Abhishek's body from the gorge.

Medical Treatment and Investigation

All injured individuals were promptly shifted to the civil hospital for medical treatment. The condition of the survivors remains under observation as they receive necessary care. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether any external factors contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with nighttime travel on challenging mountain roads, particularly in areas with limited visibility and difficult terrain.
