In the wake of the suicide by a city-based jeweller, the Sector 5 police station in Panchkula has registered an abetment to suicide case against unknown persons and launched a probe. Rajat Khanna, a resident of Sector 4, Panchkula, allegedly hanged himself at his residence on May 28.

Background of the Case

ACP Vikram Nehra stated that Khanna ran a jewellery business under the name Rajat Jewellers in the MDC area. Family members of the deceased reported that the jeweller had suffered heavy losses in business and that several financiers were threatening and harassing him over payments. According to the complaint, these individuals threatened the deceased and his family with serious consequences, leading to considerable mental strain on Khanna.

Discovery and Initial Response

On May 28, police received information about the suicide at a residence in Sector 4. A police team rushed Khanna to the hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival. Police inspected the crime scene and found a suicide note.

Investigation and Official Statements

DCP Srishti Gupta confirmed that an investigation was launched based on a complaint filed by the deceased's wife at the Sector 5 police station. She assured strict action against those found guilty. The DCP also dismissed rumors regarding the involvement of a few police officers in the case, clarifying that the family had not made any allegations against any police officer.

The police are now probing the identities of the financiers and others who may have been involved in harassing the jeweller. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
