Panchkula Resident Arrested for Attempted Murder of 54-Year-Old Woman in Dera Bassi
In a shocking incident in Dera Bassi, a 45-year-old man from Panchkula has been apprehended by the police for attempting to murder a 54-year-old woman in her residence. The attack, which occurred on March 24, was reportedly motivated by a financial dispute, highlighting the severe consequences of unresolved monetary conflicts.
Details of the Attack
The suspect, identified as a resident of Sector 16, Budhanpur in Panchkula, entered the victim's house in Kings Valley Society on Gulabgarh Road under the guise of a courier delivery. Wearing a helmet to conceal his identity, he launched a violent assault on the victim, Sushma Sharma, using a knife and a pistol-like object. At the time of the incident, three of Sharma's grandchildren, aged between five and ten years, were present in the house, adding to the trauma of the situation.
Sharma bravely resisted the attacker, sustaining multiple stab injuries on her hands, arm, and face during the struggle. Despite her injuries, she managed to fend off the assailant, who subsequently fled the scene on a scooter. In his haste, the suspect left behind crucial evidence, including his mobile phone and helmet, which later aided the police in their investigation.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Under the supervision of Dera Bassi SP Bikramjit Singh Brar, a special police team was swiftly formed to track down the perpetrator. Utilizing technical inputs and forensic evidence, the team successfully located and arrested the suspect within 48 hours of the crime. During the arrest, the police recovered the scooter and knife used in the attack, further solidifying the case against the accused.
In a desperate attempt to evade custody, the suspect jumped from a room window, resulting in injuries to his right arm and feet. However, he was promptly taken into police custody and subjected to preliminary interrogation, which revealed that the motive behind the crime was indeed a monetary dispute.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
A formal case has been registered against the accused at the Dera Bassi police station under Sections 115(2), 126(2), 333, and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused was produced before a local court, where he was remanded to police custody for further investigation. This arrest underscores the efficiency of the police force in handling such grave offenses and ensuring justice for the victim.
