Retired Professor's House Targeted in Parbhani Shooting Over Financial Dispute
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through a quiet residential neighborhood, a man allegedly fired three rounds at the residence of a retired professor in Parbhani city on Wednesday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 3:30 PM in Sujata Colony, triggered widespread panic among residents but fortunately resulted in no injuries.
Targeted Attack Over Monetary Disagreement
Police have identified the target as Gautam Munde, a retired professor who also serves as the Marathwada organiser for the People's Republican Party. According to preliminary investigations, the shooting stemmed from a long-standing financial dispute between Munde and the accused.
"The accused, Vilas Bansod, used his licensed firearm, a pistol, to fire at the home of this retired person," stated Parbhani Superintendent of Police Ravindra Singh Pardeshi. "The preliminary probe has revealed that the accused had some monetary disputes with Prof Munde."
Brave Residents Intervene and Nab Accused
What could have escalated into a more serious situation was prevented by the quick thinking and bravery of local residents. After firing three shots at the professor's house, Bansod and his relative Anil Sarkate were overpowered by alert neighbors who rushed to the scene.
"Alert residents managed to intervene and nab the duo before handing them over to the police, preventing any further escalation," confirmed SP Pardeshi. The residents immediately informed police authorities, who arrived promptly to take custody of the accused men.
Chaos and Panic in Residential Locality
The gunfire caused immediate chaos in the otherwise peaceful Sujata Colony, with residents rushing out of their homes in panic. Eyewitness accounts describe a tense scene where the accused reportedly attempted to pelt stones at people who tried to stop him during the confrontation.
The situation remained tense for some time following the incident, with fear gripping the neighborhood as news of the shooting spread rapidly through the community.
Comprehensive Police Investigation Launched
Senior police officials, including SP Pardeshi, local crime branch inspector Vivek Patil, and inspector Ganesh Kadam, visited the crime scene along with forensic experts to conduct a thorough investigation. A detailed panchnama of the scene was carried out, and crucial evidence was collected for further analysis.
Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Nanalpeth police station against the accused men. The charges include sections related to attempt to murder along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act, given that the weapon used was a licensed pistol.
Background of the Dispute
Initial police investigations indicate that the shooting resulted from old enmity linked to financial dealings between the parties involved. While the exact nature and amount of the monetary dispute remain under investigation, authorities confirm it represents a long-standing issue that ultimately led to this violent confrontation.
Police intervention eventually brought the tense situation under control in Sujata Colony, though residents remain shaken by the brazen daylight attack in their neighborhood. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and the escalation of personal disputes into violent confrontations.
The case continues to be investigated thoroughly as authorities work to piece together the complete sequence of events and ensure appropriate legal action is taken against those responsible for disrupting the peace of this residential community.
