Passenger Arrested at IGI Airport for Marijuana Smuggling

New Delhi: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have apprehended an Indian passenger who arrived from Bangkok on June 9, attempting to smuggle 6.9 kilograms of marijuana. The estimated value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 2.4 crore.

Interception and Seizure

According to customs officials, the passenger was intercepted at Terminal 3 based on profiling. During X-ray screening and a thorough examination of the passenger's luggage, authorities discovered eight polythene pouches containing a green-colored narcotic substance suspected to be marijuana. These pouches were concealed inside a black-colored trolley bag.

Details of the Recovery

A senior official confirmed that the recovered substance weighed 6,939.5 grams and, upon testing, tested positive for marijuana. The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The contraband along with the packing material was seized by customs officials.

Further investigation into the matter is currently underway. The authorities are probing the origins and intended destination of the illegal drugs.
