The Himachal Pradesh Police have arrested a man from Pathankot for allegedly stealing cash and valuables from a house in Nurpur town of Kangra district. The accused has been identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Pathankot in Punjab.

Details of the Incident

According to the police, the theft took place on the night of January 15 at the residence of a local businessman in Nurpur. The accused broke into the house and stole cash amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh, along with gold jewelry and other valuables. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be around Rs 5 lakh.

Police Investigation

Following a complaint lodged by the businessman, the Nurpur police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and launched an investigation. The police examined CCTV footage from the area and tracked the movements of the accused. They also used technical surveillance to zero in on the suspect.

The police team, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Nurpur, Inspector Rajesh Kumar, conducted raids at multiple locations and finally apprehended Ravi Kumar from his hideout in Pathankot on Wednesday. The accused was brought to Nurpur and produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody for further interrogation.

Recovery of Stolen Items

The police have recovered a major portion of the stolen cash and jewelry from the possession of the accused. Further investigation is underway to ascertain if the accused was involved in similar crimes in the region.

The arrest has brought relief to the local residents, who had been worried about the rising incidents of theft in the area. The police have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused and that they are working to ensure the safety of property in the region.
