Patna Airport Security Detains Passenger Over Live Cartridges Discovery
Security personnel at Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna detained a passenger on Friday morning after three live cartridges were found in his handbag during a routine pre-boarding screening. The incident underscores the rigorous security protocols in place at Indian airports.
Details of the Security Breach
The passenger was identified as Syed Mohsin Ali, a resident of Phulwarisharif. Ali was scheduled to fly from Patna to Delhi on an Air India flight. During the scanning of his handbag by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, the live cartridges were detected, leading to his immediate custody.
He was subsequently handed over to the Airport police station for interrogation. Sunil Kumar Jaiswal, the Station House Officer (SHO) at the Airport police station, stated that Ali claimed his family was traveling to Delhi for his brother's medical treatment. Ali asserted he was unaware of how the cartridges ended up in his handbag.
Legal and Investigative Actions
An First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged in connection with the incident. While Ali's brother, sister-in-law, and a caretaker were permitted to continue their journey to Delhi, Ali was questioned extensively. After signing a legal bond, he was later allowed to fly to Delhi as well.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kartikeya K Sharma, revealed that the accused is a former member of the Bihar State Sunni Waqf Board. Ali produced medical documents, which led authorities to allow his travel on grounds of a medical emergency.

A senior police official commented that enhanced security checks and advanced scanning systems at airports have resulted in an increased detection of prohibited items in recent years. This incident is a testament to the effectiveness of these measures in preventing potential threats.
Officials emphasized that carrying ammunition without valid documentation is a punishable offence under the Arms Act, even if done inadvertently. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation, which is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the cartridges' presence.
