Patna Railway Police Nab Seven Thieves in Major Crackdown at Junction

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Patna executed a significant operation on Monday, resulting in the arrest of seven thieves at the bustling Patna Junction railway station. This crackdown led to the dismantling of an inter-state criminal network and the recovery of stolen valuables worth approximately Rs 7 lakh.

Details of the Arrest and Recovery

During an intensive checking drive at the station, police teams apprehended three members of a notorious inter-state gang from platform number 10. These individuals were found in possession of a substantial cache of gold and silver jewellery. Simultaneously, four other thieves were arrested from platforms 2 and 3, where they were caught with stolen mobile phones.

  • Gold jewellery weighing 42.37 grams
  • Silver jewellery weighing 462.09 grams
  • Four touchscreen cellphones

The total estimated value of the recovered jewellery alone is around Rs 7 lakh, marking a significant blow to theft activities in the region.

Identities of the Accused and Their Modus Operandi

The three gang members arrested with jewellery have been identified as Mohammad Armaan (20), Aman Kumar (20), and Vivek Kumar alias Nepali (21). The four individuals caught with stolen mobile phones are Sunny Kumar (30), Monu Kumar (33), Pramod Kumar (25), and Rahul Kumar (19).

During interrogation, the accused revealed a sophisticated criminal operation. The inter-state gang members would pose as plumbers in Delhi's Sagarpur area, using this guise to conduct reconnaissance of homes before executing thefts. Additionally, they targeted passengers on long-distance trains originating from Delhi, stealing valuables and jewellery during travel.

Rail DSP (headquarters) Bhaskar Ranjan stated, "The accused were surrounded and frisked after they tried to flee upon spotting our police team, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of stolen jewellery. They admitted to stealing jewellery from a house in Delhi just two days prior to their arrest in Patna."

Police Investigation and Ongoing Efforts

The police operation was led by Patna GRP SHO Rajesh Kumar Sinha and RPF officer Satyendra Kumar, who coordinated the checking drive that led to the arrests. Preliminary investigations have uncovered criminal antecedents of the arrested men, with cases already registered against them at multiple police stations including Patna Junction GRP, Airport, and Shastri Nagar.

Authorities are now intensifying efforts to trace other members of the gang who may still be at large. This arrest highlights the vigilance of railway police in combating organized theft networks that operate across state boundaries, targeting both residential properties and railway passengers.
