Patna HC Orders Restoration of Pappu Yadav's Y Plus Security

The Patna High Court has directed the Bihar government to immediately restore the 'Y plus' security cover of former Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav. The court issued the order on Wednesday, emphasizing the imminent threats faced by the politician from notorious criminals.

Court's Directive

Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, presiding over the case, observed that the state government's decision to downgrade Yadav's security was arbitrary and lacked proper assessment of the threat perception. The court stated that the security cover must be reinstated within 48 hours, and the state police must ensure adequate protection.

Threats from Gangsters

Pappu Yadav had approached the court seeking enhancement of his security cover, citing credible threats from local gangster Chhotu Yadav and dreaded mafia don Lawrence Bishnoi. In his petition, Yadav argued that his life was in danger and that the state had failed to provide necessary protection.

Lawrence Bishnoi, currently incarcerated, has been linked to several high-profile crimes, and his gang has been active in issuing threats to politicians and celebrities. Chhotu Yadav, a rising gangster in Bihar, has also been involved in extortion and violent crimes.

Previous Security Status

Pappu Yadav, a prominent political figure in Bihar, was earlier provided with 'Y plus' security, which includes a team of armed commandos and escort vehicles. However, the state government downgraded it without citing specific reasons, leading to the legal challenge.

Government's Response

The Bihar government had argued that the threat assessment did not warrant the highest level of security. However, the court found that the government's decision was not backed by sufficient evidence and ordered immediate restoration.

The court also directed the state to conduct a fresh threat assessment within two weeks and submit a report to the court. Until then, the 'Y plus' security cover will remain in place.

This development comes amid growing concerns over the safety of public figures in Bihar, with several politicians and celebrities receiving threats from criminal networks. The court's order is seen as a significant step in ensuring the security of individuals facing credible threats.
