Patna Jewellery Store Hit by Major Robbery, Thieves Loot Rs 60 Lakh in Valuables
In a brazen overnight heist, thieves targeted a jewellery store in Patna, making off with cash and precious metals valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh. The incident occurred at a shop located in Pattu Bazar, under the jurisdiction of the Ranitalab police station in the Paliganj subdivision of Patna, on Friday night.
Details of the Burglary and Stolen Items
According to police reports, the burglars executed the theft by breaking through the rear wall of the store. They not only stole a significant amount of valuables but also removed the CCTV DVR system, potentially hindering the investigation. Store owner Rajnish Kumar filed a complaint, stating that the stolen items included 25–30 kg of silver, 150 grams of gold, and Rs 67,000 in cash, all taken from a locker that was cut open during the crime.
Empty jewellery boxes were discovered at the scene, indicating the extent of the loot. The thieves' method of entry—creating a hole in the back wall—allowed them to bypass the main shutter, which remained intact. Neighbors alerted Rajnish to the break-in on Thursday morning, and upon arrival, he found the shop in disarray with goods scattered and valuables missing.
Police Investigation and Ongoing Efforts
Ranitalab Station House Officer (SHO) Bittu Kumar confirmed that a police team promptly inspected the site after receiving information from the shopkeeper. In a statement, SHO Kumar said, "The shutter is intact. The thieves entered from the back and committed the theft by cutting the locker. The CCTV DVR is also missing. Further investigation is underway."
To aid in the probe, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams and a dog squad have been deployed to the location. Authorities are combing through evidence and following leads to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this high-value robbery.
Context and Broader Implications
This robbery highlights ongoing security concerns in commercial areas of Patna, particularly for businesses dealing with high-value goods like jewellery. The theft of the CCTV DVR adds a layer of complexity to the case, as it may have contained crucial footage that could have helped track the perpetrators.
Local residents and business owners are urged to enhance their security measures in light of this incident. The police have assured the public that they are intensifying efforts to solve the case and prevent similar crimes in the future.
