Deadly Family Feud Erupts Over Land Dispute in Patna

A tragic incident unfolded in Patna district on Tuesday morning, as an old land dispute between two brothers turned violent, leaving one person dead and four others injured. The clash occurred in Saheb Begpur, under ward number 22, within the jurisdiction of the Mokama police station.

Details of the Violent Confrontation

The conflict involved brothers Ajay Yadav and Vijay Yadav, both residents of Muliya Tola. Around 8:30 AM, Ajay was returning home with his wife, sons, and a nephew after working in their farm field. As they passed by Vijay's residence, a heated argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation between the two families.

Weapons used in the attack included bricks, stones, sticks, and sharp-edged tools such as a spade. The violence targeted Ajay's family members, leading to severe injuries. Police responded promptly to the scene and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Casualties and Police Response

Tragically, Rajiv Kumar, the 32-year-old son of Ajay, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. He had sustained critical head wounds during the assault. Ajay's wife, Hira Devi, and their son Krishna Kumar were referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) due to their serious condition. Additionally, Ajay's nephew suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Following the clash, Ajay filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Mokama police station. Based on this complaint, police arrested Vijay and his two sons, Vikram Kumar and Vivek Kumar. Kunal Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mokama police station, provided insights into the background of the dispute.

Root Cause: A Long-Standing Property Dispute

The SHO explained that the families had been at odds over the distribution of property, specifically involving 4 kattha of land. Although the property had been divided between the brothers, frequent disputes arose concerning the land near their homes. The immediate trigger for the violence occurred on Monday when Ajay was leveling his farm field, and water flowed into Vijay's adjacent plot, sparking an altercation.

Kundan Kumar, the Superintendent of Police (Rural), confirmed that one side launched the attack using a spade and other weapons, which resulted in Rajiv's death. He noted that while the dispute was old, no formal complaint had been registered with the police prior to this tragic incident.

This case highlights the severe consequences of unresolved family conflicts over land, underscoring the need for timely intervention and legal recourse to prevent such violent outcomes.
