Patna Police Apprehend Duo in Heinous Child Assault Case
In a deeply disturbing incident that has shaken the community, Patna police have arrested one Manjeet Kumar, also known as Piyush, along with his maternal aunt, Kiran Devi, for their alleged involvement in the brutal rape of a three-year-old girl. The arrests were made on Tuesday following the registration of a case under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Chilling Details of the Alleged Crime Emerge
According to police officials, Manjeet Kumar had arrived at his grandmother's residence in Patna approximately one week prior to attend a family wedding. The horrific events unfolded on Monday night when the accused allegedly forcibly abducted the toddler from her home next door after she had finished her dinner around 9:30 PM.
The police investigation reveals that Manjeet took the young victim to his aunt Kiran Devi's house, where he is accused of committing the sexual assault. In a further shocking development, authorities state that Kiran Devi then allegedly attempted to kill the child in an effort to conceal the crime, believing she had already died from her injuries.
Dramatic Police Intervention and Rescue Operation
When the girl's family discovered her missing, they immediately launched a search and subsequently alerted the police. A police team responded promptly and visited the accused's residence to inquire about the child's whereabouts.
"During our initial visit, Kiran Devi denied any knowledge of the girl's location," a police officer involved in the case explained. "Our team returned at 3 AM on Tuesday and confronted her more sternly, indicating that a dog squad would be deployed for investigation. At this point, she revealed that the girl was inside a locked room."
The officers forced entry into the bolted room and discovered the three-year-old victim unconscious and severely injured. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, where examination confirmed the sexual assault.
Accused's Troubling Criminal History Revealed
Further investigation has uncovered that Manjeet Kumar has a prior criminal record involving similar offenses. Police officials confirmed that he was previously convicted under the Pocso Act in another area of Patna in 2023 and had been released from prison only a few months before this latest alleged crime.
"The main accused committed a similar offense about three years ago when he visited his in-laws' residence," the police officer stated. "During interrogation, both Manjeet and his aunt admitted they had planned to kill the girl to cover up their crime and were preparing to dispose of her body when our team intervened."
The young victim remains hospitalized and is undergoing treatment for her physical and psychological trauma. Patna police have assured the community that they are conducting a thorough investigation and will pursue maximum punishment under the law for those responsible for this horrific act against a defenseless child.
