Patna Police Apprehend Notorious Criminal in High-Value Apartment Theft

In a significant breakthrough, Patna Police have arrested a notorious criminal in connection with a major theft at an apartment located on G D Mishra Path in Patliputra Colony. The incident, which occurred on April 10, involved thieves escaping with cash and jewellery valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh.

Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Goods

Acting on a credible tip-off, police officials successfully arrested the accused, identified as Mohd Junaid alias Baba, from the Jakkanpur area. During intensive interrogation, Junaid cooperated with authorities, leading them to the recovery of critical evidence. This included two country-made pistols, eight live 7.65 mm cartridges, along with a substantial amount of gold and silver jewellery.

Junaid, originally hailing from Chhabilapur in Nalanda district, had been residing in a rented house in Jakkanpur. Police investigations reveal that he was actively involved in committing thefts across the city, leveraging his local knowledge and criminal network.

Criminal History and Police Investigation

SDPO-II (law and order) Divyanjali Jaiswal provided detailed insights into Junaid's extensive criminal record. The accused is implicated in multiple cases of theft, robbery, and violations under the Arms Act. These cases are registered at various police stations, including Rajiv Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Gardanibagh, Jakkanpur, and Pataliputra in Patna, as well as Dariyapur in Saran district.

The police operation was meticulously planned and executed. After tracking the number plate of a stolen motorcycle, SHO Patliputra police station Atulesh Kumar and inspector Vishal Kumar conducted reconnaissance for two to three days in the adjacent building of Jakkanpur. This strategic surveillance culminated in the successful apprehension of Junaid.

Comprehensive Recovery of Evidence

A thorough search of Junaid's rented room yielded a trove of stolen items and weapons. From the accused, police recovered:

  • Arms and ammunition, including the two pistols and cartridges
  • Gold and silver jewellery believed to be from the theft
  • Rs 30,976 in cash
  • Luxury watches
  • A stolen motorcycle
  • Lock-picking equipment used in the crimes

According to police statements made on Monday, this recovery underscores the severity and planning involved in the criminal activities.

Ongoing Manhunt for Accomplices

Police investigations indicate that three individuals were involved in the theft at the Patliputra Colony apartment. While Junaid has been taken into custody, the other two accused remain absconding. Authorities have launched extensive raids across the region to apprehend these fugitives and bring them to justice.

During interrogation, Junaid disclosed that he met both his accomplices while incarcerated in jail. It was during this time that they formulated a detailed plan to carry out the theft. After their release, the trio executed their first major heist by targeting a flat in Patliputra Colony, making off with jewellery and cash worth several lakhs of rupees.

The arrest marks a critical step in curbing organized theft in Patna, but police emphasize that the investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being intensified to track down the remaining suspects and recover any additional stolen property. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
