Major Breakthrough in Patna Chain-Snatching Cases
In a significant crackdown on organized crime, Patna police have successfully dismantled a notorious chain-snatching gang that had been terrorizing residents across multiple city areas since May this year. The police operation led to the arrest of seven individuals, including the alleged mastermind behind the criminal network.
Kingpin Arrested in Dramatic Operation
The breakthrough came when police apprehended Shubham Kumar, identified as the gang leader, near Bandar Bagicha under the Kotwali police station area. The arrest followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering by multiple police teams working in coordination.
Based on crucial information provided by Kumar during interrogation, authorities extended their investigation to Danapur, where they arrested a local goldsmith who allegedly melted stolen jewellery for the gang. This revelation exposed an entire ecosystem supporting the chain-snatching operations.
Widespread Criminal Activities Uncovered
Police investigations have revealed that the arrested gang members are linked to over 25 criminal cases across prominent Patna neighborhoods including Kankarbagh, Gandhi Maidan, Shastri Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, and Kotwali. The gang had developed a systematic approach to target victims and quickly dispose of stolen goods.
The recoveries from the gang have been substantial, including gold jewellery worth approximately ₹6 lakh, ₹10,000 in cash, multiple motorcycles used in the crimes, and several cellphones. The value of recovered items underscores the scale of their criminal operations.
Sophisticated Evasion Techniques Exposed
Investigators discovered that the gang employed clever tactics to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies. They frequently changed motorcycle number plates to confuse police and witnesses, making it difficult to track their movements across the city.
Additionally, the gang maintained multiple bank accounts that they regularly changed to prevent financial tracking. This level of sophistication indicates their experience in criminal activities and their conscious efforts to evade the legal system.
The successful operation represents a major victory for Patna police in their ongoing efforts to combat street crime and ensure public safety. Police officials have indicated that further investigations are underway to identify any additional accomplices and recover more stolen property.
