Patna Police Cracks Down on Major LPG Black Marketing Syndicate
In a significant crackdown, police in Patna have dismantled a large-scale LPG black marketing and illegal refilling operation, uncovering a racket with potential international ties. The raid, conducted late on Monday night, targeted a hideout in the Nariyar area under the Motipur police station in Muzaffarpur district.
Swift Action Based on Intelligence
Acting on a crucial tip-off, a special police team was formed under the directives of SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra. The team swiftly moved to raid a suspected location situated near a highway. Suchitra Kumari, SDPO-I (west), provided details of the operation to reporters on Tuesday.
The raid led to the recovery of multiple vehicles and equipment used in the illegal activities. Police seized a loaded LPG container vehicle with a Nepal registration number, a van filled with cylinders, and an e-rickshaw utilized for local deliveries. Additionally, pipes and other tools employed for illegally refilling gas into smaller domestic cylinders were confiscated. In total, 54 empty and filled gas cylinders were taken from the site.
Suspects Flee, Investigation Intensifies
Upon spotting the police team, the illegal traders and workers present at the location managed to escape. However, authorities have taken possession of the seized vehicles and the large quantity of gas cylinders. SSP Mishra emphasized the scale of the racket, describing it as a major nexus that likely has international connections, particularly with Nepal.
Police are now focused on identifying the owners of the recovered vehicles and tracing the leaders behind this syndicate. Efforts are underway to connect all links in the illegal operation, and the absconding accused are expected to be arrested soon, according to Mishra.
This bust highlights ongoing challenges in curbing black marketing activities that exploit essential commodities like LPG, posing risks to public safety and economic stability.
