Patna Police Crack Year-Long Murder Mystery with Arrests of Girlfriend and Brother-in-Law

In a significant breakthrough, Patna police have successfully cracked a murder case that had remained unsolved for over a year. The body of a young man, identified as Mahadev Shah from Jehanabad district, was discovered on March 18, 2025, in the Parsa Bazar police station area. The victim had suffered brutal injuries, including a slit throat and multiple sharp-weapon wounds, indicating a violent and premeditated attack.

Investigation Leads to Arrests Based on Call Detail Records and Interrogations

Acting on meticulous analysis of Call Detail Records (CDR) and intensive interrogations, the police have arrested three individuals in connection with the crime. The accused include Pushpa Devi, the deceased's girlfriend, her brother-in-law Alok Kumar, and autorickshaw driver Sunny Kumar. One additional suspect remains at large and is currently absconding, with authorities actively pursuing leads to apprehend them.

Motivation Revealed: Blackmail and Relationship Turmoil

During a press briefing on Sunday, City SP (East) Parichay Kumar disclosed that Alok Kumar confessed to the murder during interrogation. According to the SP, Pushpa Devi had married Abhimanyu Paswan in 2022 but continued her romantic involvement with Mahadev Shah. Even after her marriage, Mahadev allegedly engaged in blackmail, threatening to leak nude photos and videos of Pushpa to coerce her into maintaining physical relations. This situation caused severe distress to Pushpa's family, escalating tensions that ultimately led to the fatal incident.

Details of the Murder Plot and Arrest Operation

The police investigation revealed that on March 17, 2025, Pushpa Devi reportedly called Mahadev Shah to arrange a meeting. Alok Kumar, along with his friend Sunny Kumar, picked up Mahadev in an autorickshaw from his village. They took him to a secluded location where they carried out the murder. Alok Kumar, who operated a private medical clinic in his village, shut down the practice after the crime and relocated to Patna to prepare for the sub-inspector examination. Police arrested Alok from a hostel in Mahendru, where he attempted to flee by jumping from the building, resulting in a fractured leg.

Evidence Recovery and Ongoing Investigation

From the possession of the accused, officers recovered three cellphones, including the deceased's damaged phone. This evidence is expected to provide crucial insights and further corroborate the details of the case as the investigation continues. The police are leveraging forensic analysis and digital data to build a strong case against the arrested individuals while intensifying efforts to capture the remaining suspect.
