Patna Police and Bihar STF Apprehend Five Criminals in Armed Encounter
A significant breakthrough was achieved by law enforcement in Patna district on Monday, as a joint team comprising local police and the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) successfully arrested five criminals following an intense encounter. The operation unfolded in the Pandarak police station area, located under the Barh subdivision, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat crime in the region.
Intelligence-Driven Operation Leads to Confrontation
Authorities acted on precise intelligence inputs indicating that a group of armed criminals had assembled in the Diara region. According to police reports, these individuals were allegedly planning to terrorize local farmers and loot standing crops, posing a severe threat to agricultural communities. When the joint team arrived at the scene, the criminals responded aggressively by opening fire on the police personnel.
In a swift act of self-defence, the officers retaliated with gunfire, leading to a brief exchange. During this confrontation, one of the accused, identified as Pranav Kumar alias Dheeraj, sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was immediately transported to the Barh subdivisional hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable, with no immediate life-threatening concerns.
Arrests and Recovery of Arms and Ammunition
The remaining four accused were apprehended at the spot without further incident. They have been named as Vipin Kumar, Sudal Yadav, Sanjeev Kumar, and Sandhir Kumar. Patna rural Superintendent of Police Kundan Kumar provided details on the substantial cache of weapons and ammunition seized from the criminals. The recovery included:
- Two rifles
- One single-barrel gun
- One revolver
- 28 .315 cartridges
- 23 LG single-barrel gun cartridges
- Eight revolver cartridges
- Four boxes of .315 ammunition
- One pistol shell
- One revolver casing
- One single-barrel gun cartridge
- Seven empty shells
This haul underscores the dangerous capabilities of the arrested individuals and the potential risk they posed to public safety.
Legal Proceedings and Criminal Backgrounds
An FIR has been officially registered against all five accused, and further legal actions are currently in progress. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Pranav Kumar alias Dheeraj is a history-sheeter with a troubling criminal record. He has two prior cases registered against him at the Kadamkuan and Bhadaur police stations, indicating a pattern of unlawful behaviour.
Dheeraj faces charges in several serious criminal cases, including:

- Rioting
- Voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons
- Attempt to murder
- Criminal conspiracy
