Patna Police Cracks Down on Illegal LPG Black Marketing Operation
In a significant enforcement action, the Patna police arrested an electrical repairing shop owner on Sunday for allegedly engaging in the illegal refilling and sale of LPG cylinders in the black market. The incident occurred in the Srikrishnapuri area of Patna, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb such illicit activities.
Police Raid Uncovers Hidden Operation
Acting on a credible tip-off, a police team led by Srikrishnapuri Station House Officer (SHO) Jitendra Rana conducted a targeted raid at the Sarveshwari Electric Repair Center, located near the Anandpuri drain. During the operation, authorities seized eight empty LPG cylinders along with specialized refilling equipment, exposing a clandestine setup.
The raid was meticulously planned after Inspector Randhir Kumar visited the shop undercover, posing as a customer. He inquired about purchasing a gas cylinder, to which the shopkeeper reportedly agreed to sell cylinders through illegal channels, confirming suspicions of black market dealings.
Confession and Legal Proceedings
During interrogation, the accused, identified as Anil Kumar, a resident of Rajapur Pul who operates the repair center, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the presence of the cylinders and equipment. He subsequently confessed to refilling and selling both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders illegally, all while maintaining a facade of running a legitimate electrical appliance repair business.
Supply Inspector Prince Kumar emphasized that the operation was based on reliable intelligence. He stated, "A case has been registered against the accused under the Essential Commodities Act at Srikrishnapuri police station. He has confessed to black marketing of LPG cylinders, and further legal action will be taken as per the law."
This arrest underscores the authorities' commitment to enforcing regulations and preventing the misuse of essential commodities, which can disrupt supply chains and pose safety risks to the public.
