Patwari Caught Taking Rs 10,000 Bribe in Sagar

Bhopal: A patwari posted in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district was caught red-handed by Lokayukta police on Thursday while allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe to process a land mutation case.

Manvendra Singh Thakur, posted as patwari of Halka No 34, Bamhori Ghat, under Jaisinagar tehsil, was apprehended at Tili Tiraha on Ganeshpuram Road in Sagar.

Lokayukta officials stated that the complainant, Bhagwan Das Solanki of Sagar, approached the anti-corruption agency after the patwari allegedly demanded money to facilitate the mutation of agricultural land purchased by his daughter-in-law.

The complainant’s daughter-in-law had bought 1.4 hectares of land in village Kankar Kuiya under Jaisinagar tehsil. The mutation application was pending at the Tehsildar office in Jaisinagar. Since village Kankar Kuiya falls under Bamhori Ghat Halka jurisdiction, the matter was being handled by Thakur.

Solanki alleged that the patwari demanded Rs 10,000 to complete the mutation process. He subsequently submitted a written complaint to the Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Sagar.

After verifying the allegations, a Lokayukta team laid a trap on June 12, and Thakur was caught while accepting the bribe amount.

Background of the Case

The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by the Lokayukta to curb corruption in government offices. Patwaris are often involved in land record management, and bribery in mutation cases is a common grievance.

This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and the role of anti-corruption agencies in ensuring accountability.
