Phagwara Police Launch Aggressive Drive Against Modified Motorcycle Silencers
In a decisive move to curb noise pollution and enforce traffic regulations, the Phagwara traffic police have escalated their campaign targeting illegal modified silencers on Bullet motorcycles. This initiative, spearheaded by Traffic Police In-Charge Inspector Aman Kumar Daveshwar under the vigilant supervision of Phagwara DSP Bharat Bhushan, aims to restore public peace and uphold legal standards on city roads.
Strict Enforcement Actions and Public Warnings
The special drive was conducted at strategic locations across Phagwara, including Hargobind Chowk, the bus stand area, Vishal Mega Mart, and Banga Road. Police set up nakas (checkpoints) to inspect motorcycles equipped with high-decibel "cracker" silencers, known for causing significant disturbance. In a bold enforcement step, authorities removed 25 such modified silencers from vehicles and crushed them under a road roller to prevent any potential reuse, sending a clear message against violations.
During the operation, police teams also issued stern warnings to local mechanics, cautioning them against making illegal alterations to vehicle exhaust systems. Violations could lead to strict legal repercussions, emphasizing the seriousness of the campaign.
Traffic Violations and Awareness Efforts
Alongside targeting modified silencers, the police issued 50 challans for various traffic offences and impounded two motorcycles for severe violations. Superintendent of Police Madhvi Sharma highlighted the dual focus of the drive: enforcement and education. She noted that many school-going children are involved in such activities and appealed directly to parents to take responsibility for their wards.
"Parents must ensure that their children do not indulge in unlawful practices. Allowing minors or young riders to use modified vehicles can have serious legal and safety implications," SP Sharma stated, underscoring the need for parental vigilance in promoting responsible behavior.

DSP Bharat Bhushan reinforced the commitment to ongoing strict action against violators, pointing out that noise pollution is not merely a nuisance but a critical public health and safety issue. The campaign includes sensitization efforts in schools to educate students about the harmful effects of noise pollution and the importance of adhering to traffic norms for community well-being.
