A 35-year-old man has been arrested for stealing a mobile phone from a bystander who was sleeping at Kilpauk Government Medical College and Hospital in Chennai. The phone was recovered, and the accused has been remanded in judicial custody.

Incident Details

The victim, Premkumar, 25, a resident of Nelladikuppam in Cuddalore district, had come to the hospital to care for his younger brother, Nitishkumar, who was undergoing treatment for burn injuries. In the early hours of Thursday, while Premkumar was sleeping outside the ward, a man stole his mobile phone and attempted to flee. Premkumar woke up, raised an alarm, and chased the suspect.

Arrest and Recovery

With the help of other bystanders, the suspect was caught and handed over to the Kilpauk police. Police identified the suspect as Sait, alias Jayaram, 35, a daily wage worker from Tindivanam. The stolen phone was recovered from his possession. He was arrested and later remanded in judicial custody.
