In a significant breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh police have solved the murder of a 22-year-old farmer in Pilibhit district, 55 days after he was reported missing. The victim's identity was conclusively established through advanced DNA analysis of skeletal remains discovered in an agricultural field.
From Missing Person to Murder Investigation
The case began when Raghunandan Kumar vanished without a trace on October 20. His family promptly filed a missing person report with the authorities. The investigation took a grim turn on December 8, when local police recovered a human skull and a set of bones from a field on the outskirts of Nabadia Durjanpur village.
Suspecting a connection to the missing farmer, investigators sent bone samples for forensic examination. To confirm the identity, they also collected blood samples from the victim's two brothers for a comparative DNA test. The subsequent forensic report provided the crucial link, confirming that the remains were indeed those of Raghunandan Kumar.
Arrests Made Following Formal Complaint
Armed with the DNA confirmation, the victim's elder brother, Chunni Lal, submitted a detailed written complaint to the police. In it, he named two young men from the same village, both approximately 25 years old, accusing them of murdering Raghunandan.
Acting on this complaint, the Seramau North police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday evening. The case was filed under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103 (murder) and Section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of crime). The two accused were swiftly taken into custody on Monday for intensive questioning.
Love Triangle Emerges as Motive
According to Seramau North Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar, the murder resulted from a complex love triangle involving the deceased, the two accused, and a woman. The police reconstruction of events suggests a premeditated plan.
On the night of Diwali, the accused allegedly approached Raghunandan under the guise of inviting him to a liquor party. They took him from his home. After ensuring he was intoxicated, the duo is accused of attacking and killing him with a sharp-edged weapon. To conceal their crime, they then dumped his body in a nearby sugarcane field.
The meticulous police work, combining traditional investigation with modern forensic science, brought a measure of closure to the grieving family after nearly two months of uncertainty. The case highlights the increasing reliance on DNA technology to solve crimes where evidence is minimal.
